Born Standing Up by Steve Martin
My wife is a big Steve Martin fan and has read almost all his books (I have not read any). A friend had just recently given her this book and I decided to pick it up. The opening paragraph on the jacket fold says:
In the mid-seventies, Steve Martin exploded onto the comedy scene. By 1978 he was the biggest concert draw in the history of stand-up. In 1981, he quit forever. This books is, in his own words, the story of "why I did stand-up and walked away."
I thought it was a very interesting (and fast - I read it in two sittings) read. On a certain level it is also an inspirational story of what it means to relentlessly follow your dreams.
