Baby Tips

From AmericanBaby.com:

Someone suggested that I buy several crib sheets and two crib mattress-protector sheets when my first child was born. I put both on the crib mattress, so when the baby spits up or a diaper leaks at 2am, I just take off the top layer of sheets. That way, i don't have to worry about making a whole bed in the middle of the night.

Baby Tips

Tips from friends with children:

"Baby knows when you're stressed. I can't tell you how many times I put my heart and soul into caring for that screaming little man and I fed him and changed him and rocked him and stood on my head for him . . . to no avail . . .the tears kept coming. Dad walks into the room and picks up the baby and two milliseconds later the baby is soothed and calm. Talk about a slap in the face to dear old Mom. My best advice . . . this will happen to you and try not to take it personally. Baby doesn't like the other parent better. baby is just feeding off of your stress and frustration, and the change of person is all it really takes to snap the baby out of it's fit. Tables will be turned and you will be the hero the next time (this applies to both mom and dad visa versa)."

Baby Tips

Tips from friends with children:

"Baby nightgowns (yes, even if it is a boy!) you get up every two hours at night to change your baby's diaper and see how long you'll like snapping all those tiny little snaps down the pj legs when you are all droggy and sleep deprived. those nightgown things are heaven sent! Most even have little flaps to put over baby's hands so they don't gouge themselves with their own sharp fingernails."

"On a similar note as above . . . If you do go for pj's (sleepers) get a few with a zipper up the whole front rather than a billion snaps. Same rational as for the nightgown. A few snaps . . . fine, but every night 20 snaps, 5 times a night, no thank you!"

Baby Tips

Tips from friends with children:

"Go to the silly birthing and breastfeeding classes. You won't walk out totally enlightened but it is decent info to file away and they give you a bunch of handouts. I would recommend filing the handouts because they are great to refer back to when you are actually in the midst of caring for your baby. It's also nice to meet and chat with other parents who are experiencing the same things."

Baby Tips

Tips from friends with children:

- A wedge pillow to put between Holly's knees when she sleeps. Her hips might appreciate it later in the pregnancy.

-A Baby Boppy pillow. They are handy for propping up the little one at various stages of their development.

-Also
a sleep positioner for the baby is handy.

-
Lanolin. It's not just for nursing. It's good for dry spots on the baby as well.

-You can't have too many bibs. The bigger the better.

-A baby gate to limit movement in the house can be handy. Buckley might be nice and share his.

-I heard
this guy on the radio the other day and he has some good advice. His book might be worth checking into.

Baby Tips

From AmericanBaby.com

"The best new-mom advice I received was to sleep when your baby sleeps. Despite having laundry, vacuuming, or grocery shopping on my to-do list, taking a nap truly rejuvenates both my mind and body - even if it for a brief half hour."

Soothing the Savage Baby

From Dad Labs:

Baby Tips - Names

Advice from friends with children:
Make sure to use your veto power when names are coming out . . . it is your job to make sure that you don't have a child that is named during some psychotic hormonal mood swing. Advice: suggest a couple of crazy names that she would have to veto . . . that way you have a couple of vetoes up your sleeve. (I was so disheartened when [my wife] hated my suggestion of Ugolino . . .)

Baby Tips - Misc

Tips from friends with children:

- Get lots of sleep now
- Pack your freezer with frozen meals and easy fix meals
- Go on lots of dates now and take any big trip you've been wanting to take before the baby comes
- Don't leave things to do in the last few months b/c you may be really tired and not feel like doing anything but having the baby come out . . .:-)
- Enjoy pregnancy, write down your thoughts and feelings
- Sing to your baby . . . [my daughter] still responds differently (calms her down) to songs I sung to her while in the womb

Tips from friends with children:

"The first five months are all about baby and booby, so don't get in an attention tiff - remember, if your lady goes NUTS for a while, it won't last."
