Give me your hands, if we be friends . . .

We have had a blank canvas at the house for some time now and when we were planning for Annabelle's first birthday party, we thought we would put it to good use.

Crystal ( our niece ) gave it a coat of paint for the background color and we set it up in the backyard next to the shed during Annie's party a few weeks ago.

Once everyone had gathered around to sing "Happy Birthday", I asked if each of the children present would place their hand print on the canvas sometime during the remainder of the party.

So as people relaxed and chatted and ate cake, each of the kids came by, placed their hand print and signed their name. Then it was the adults' turn.

It was so fun to paint each other's hands and slap them on the canvass. More than one of the adults stood in childlike wonder and as I brushed on the paint they would exclaim, "I haven't done this in over 40 years!"

It was a lot of fun and some people got pretty creative with it. We have a great keepsake of Annie's first birthday and the finished piece will hang in the guest room as soon as we get time to hang it.

Thanks again to everyone who came to "The Big ONE!"
