A vivid description of the ending of the war is given in Warren's diary for November 10, 1918:
Things were about as usual in the morning and in the afternoon. I was in the office at about 9pm, and suddenly there was an outburst of sirens, rockets, Very lights, hooters, searchlights and all sorts of things. Hurried back to the mess and found everyone dancing round the room . . . . Australians were firing Very pistols in the square . . . . [And there were] six bonfires going with Belgians dancing and shouting round them with our lads. Cathedral and Church bells pealed most of the night. Got home and to bed about 2:30am . . . A very great day indeed. So ends the war.
